Straighten your teeth discreetly with Invisalign® in Burlington, ON

If you’ve noticed that seemingly everyone around you has straight teeth and beautiful smiles, you may be wondering how they got there. In many cases, their secret might be Invisalign®! This revolutionary method of straightening your teeth is discreet, effective, and lets you enjoy your current lifestyle without worrying about uncomfortable and unsightly metal brackets and wires.

How Invisalign works

Invisalign consists of a series of custom-designed invisible teeth aligners that gradually shift your teeth into the optimal position for a straight smile and a healthy bite. The process starts with an initial consultation to determine whether Invisalign is right for you. During your consultation, we will take images of your teeth, as well as digital impressions, which we use to plan out your treatment. Using these images, you can see what your end results will look like before you even start your treatment!

Your series of clear aligners will be fabricated in an Invisalign laboratory using a comfortable, BPA-free plastic. Once they are ready, you come into the office to pick them up and we will go over how to take care of them, how often to wear them, and schedule your first check-up. Generally, patients wear the aligners for two weeks at a time before switching to the next set in the series, and you should wear them for a minimum of 22 hours a day—any time you are not eating, drinking anything but water, or brushing and flossing your teeth.

Each patient’s treatment plan is unique, but on average, patients complete their treatment within about one year. After your treatment is complete, we give you a comfortable retainer to wear while you sleep that will help you maintain your straight, healthy smile.

Who is a good candidate?

Invisalign can be a great option for adults who want straight teeth but don’t want to undergo treatment with traditional braces. It can be used to treat a variety of tooth and bite alignment issues, including:

  • Crooked teeth
  • Overcrowded teeth
  • Gaps between teeth
  • Overbite
  • Underbite
  • Open bite

It is important to understand that Invisalign is not the best choice for everyone. Some patients with more severe misalignment or bite problems will achieve better results with traditional orthodontic treatments. Dr. Nguyen will help you determine whether Invisalign is right for you.

What is adult orthodontics?

At Tansley Woods Dentistry, one of the services we provide to our patients is called adult orthodontics.

I am a general dentist, but I do perform adult orthodontics in our office. Adult orthodontics is a procedure where we realign your front teeth primarily into a more aesthetic position.

What are the methods used to perform adult orthodontics?

The first way we do it is called 6 Month Smiles®. That’s the procedure where we use clear braces and white wires to attach the braces onto your teeth.

This procedure will take six months on average to get the results patient would like.

Another method that we use is called Invisalign®. Most people know it as a non-braces treatment where you have to wear clear aligners to move your teeth.

Following a diagnosis, we would tell how many clear trays are needed to be worn in order from tray one until you finish.

How long does Invisalign® take to show results?

On average, it is one to two weeks per tray. The ideal number of hours to be wearing the trays per day is 20-22 for the process to work.

The advantage of Invisalign® is not having to wear braces. You can eat anything solid you want. You can take the tray out when you are eating and put it back in when done.

Feel free to give us a call to get the perfect straight smile you always wanted.

Invisalign FAQ

What is Invisalign?

The Invisalign clear aligner treatment is an orthodontic solution that does not require the metal brackets and wires of traditional braces. Instead, Invisalign utilizes a series of removable clear aligners. You start with the first aligner in the series and gradually make your way sequentially through the series, moving to the next set of aligners every few weeks. The clear aligners fit comfortably over your teeth, and gently apply pressure to move your teeth into the correct alignment.

What material are Invisalign clear aligners made of?

The aligners you will receive from Invisalign are designed from a comfortable, clear, dental-grade plastic. Invisalign uses its patented SmartTrack thermoplastic material, designed exclusively for the treatment. It provides an accurate, comfortable fit that is highly effective at shifting teeth into the correct positions.

What are the primary benefits of Invisalign?

The most significant benefit of Invisalign is right there in the name – the aligners are virtually invisible. People will never notice you wearing your Invisalign aligners unless you tell them. They are also removable, meaning you can take them off when you need to eat, drink, brush, floss, or during special occasions. Invisalign requires no metal wires or brackets like traditional braces.

What is the Invisalign treatment process?

When you decide to straighten your teeth with Invisalign, you will begin the process with a consultation. When you sit down with Dr. Nguyen, your smile will be evaluated so we can precisely map out your customized treatment plan. This will highlight your upcoming treatment plan step by step, allowing you to see how your smile will transform. Your aligners will then be created for you. Once you receive your aligners, you will wear them for 20 to 22 hours daily and move to the next set in your series approximately every two weeks. Each set of aligners is designed to apply pressure on your teeth as they gradually shift into their proper position and alignment.

How long does Invisalign take to complete?

Complete Invisalign treatment could take six months for patients with minor alignment or bite issues. This will vary from patient to patient and will be longer for those with more complex problems that require correcting. On average, 12-18 months is the typical treatment time.

Can I remove my aligners whenever I want?

In short, yes. You can remove your Invisalign clear aligners whenever you feel it necessary to do so. If you need to eat, drink, brush your teeth, floss, etc., your aligners can be easily removed. However, please remember that you must wear your aligners for 20 to 22 hours daily to progress through your treatment as scheduled. Failing to wear your aligners for this long can have a negative impact on your progress.

Dr. Nguyen is hands down THE BEST dentist I've ever been to! He and his team are the sweetest, most attentive, and funniest team I've ever encountered. They are soo understanding and always so helpful and unlike the other dentists I've been to, I never once felt insecure or judged during an appointment. I came to Dr. Nguyen for an invisalign treatment and I enjoyed the entire process! He was honest and transparent and he really cared about the concerns I had. He and his team took care of my biggest insecurity and my fear of going to the dentist! I honestly never looked forward to a dentist appointment until I started seeing Dr. Nguyen (and Mai!!!). I highly recommend Tansley Woods Dentistry to anyone thats in the market for a new dentist!
