Rebuild Your Smile with Natural-looking Dental Crowns and Bridges

Do you know the loss of even one tooth has a “domino effect” in your mouth? Tooth loss can cause uneven tooth wear, teeth misalignment, and even further tooth loss as the remaining teeth face more pressure than usual due to uneven distribution of chewing and grinding forces.

Porcelain dental bridges and crowns from Tansley Woods Dentistry are excellent in replacing lost or extracted teeth for a beautiful, functional smile. Expertly designed by Dr. Thelam Nguyen, porcelain restorations in our office are shaded like your natural teeth for natural-looking results.

What is a dental crown?

A crown is a tooth-shaped restoration worn over your damaged or decayed tooth to improve its shape, colour, and health. Dental crowns are designed to mimic your natural teeth, from function to appearance, for a seamless integration into your smile.

Dental crowns may be small, but they are real “heavyweights” in dentistry. Your dentist may recommend a dental crown for many reasons, including:

  • Reinforcing a tooth that has undergone root canal treatment
  • Aesthetically improving a severely discolored or misshapen tooth
  • Strengthening a weakened tooth
  • Treating large cavities
  • Capping off a dental implant
  • Anchoring a dental bridge

A traditional dental crown is placed over two to three dental appointments. The procedure involves reshaping your teeth and taking your bite impressions to be used by our dental lab to fabricate your custom-fitted crown. Once your crown is ready, we use dental cement to bond your restoration permanently to your tooth.

Porcelain dental bridges: how they rebuild your smile

A dental bridge consists of one or more prosthetic teeth (pontics) secured by dental crowns placed on healthy teeth (abutments) on either side of the toothless gap. A dental bridge is a custom-fitted restoration that fits perfectly into your smile. Once in place, a dental bridge seamlessly restores your aesthetics and oral function, just like your natural teeth.

Placing dental bridges isn’t an overnight journey. The treatment requires several appointments spanning two to four weeks, with much of the work happening in the first appointment. During this stage, we prepare the abutment teeth, take impressions of your teeth, and send your images to our ceramists to create your restoration. Once your bridge is ready, we use dental cement to bond your teeth. You’ll take a few days to get used to your bridge, but when you do, your restoration will feel and function like natural teeth.
