What should I expect during a dental exam?
Our office never wants to see you hide your charming smile because of cavities, decay, or other issues. We make your dental exams as comfortable as possible so that you can keep coming. If it’s your first time in our office, this is what to expect.
- Knowing you: When you arrive, you will be welcomed by our friendly staff. If applicable, you’ll fill out the necessary paperwork as we verify your insurance. Then, we’ll inquire about your medical history, including past dental work, current medication, underlying medical conditions, presence of allergies, etc.
- Comprehensive oral exam: Our dentist inspects your mouth for signs of cavities, gum disease, decay, misalignment, oral cancer, and other issues. During oral screenings, you experience no pain, so there’s no need for anesthesia. Your dentist uses his eyes, hands, and a small mirror/camera to get details of your smile.
- Dental x-rays: Where clinically possible, we order digital x-rays to identify issues not visible to the naked eye. Digital radiographs help us identify hidden cavities, cysts, bone loss, wisdom teeth, tumours, etc., that may lurk beneath the gum line.
- Dental cleaning: If we find no significant issues with your smile, we professionally clean your smile to remove built-in plaque and tartar using scaling tools. Then, we floss and polish your teeth to remove surface stains for a gleaming smile.
